Developing the Habit of Being an Early Riser

Take my word for it, or better yet, take Rumi’s word for it

I know, I know. It’s not for everyone. In fact for most of my life, it hasn’t really been for me. Here’s what I know after having been an early riser and that person who compulsively hits the snooze bar: I’m much more productive when I wake up early. As I write this, we’re two weeks into December. I have been waking up at 5am every morning after having made a commitment to reinstall this habit.

One thing that really helps me keep my commitment to getting up early is having some accountability. What better way than to be up and dressed and ready to start working on the things that matter most before all the things begin to get in the way, or worse, become an excuse.

Early to bed and early to rise makes a humanoid healthy, wealthy, and wise.

My most productive year was one in which I was on a phone call with a group of people every weekday morning at 5:15am. We spent 15 minutes checking in, setting intentions for the day, and providing encouragement for each other. That year, I went directly from the phone call to my exercise regime (intenSati). What a year. That small amount of time spent each day helped me to unleash the energy for me to accomplish a lot of other things.

Last year, I decided to start my own wake up call. On Zoom, no less. It ended up being two groups since I had friends in Hawaii who wanted to wake up at 5:15 their time. Here we are with just about two weeks left on the year and I’m proud to say that my Hawaii call group is still going strong.

Hawaii peeps still going strong!

Sadly, the Pacific coast time group fell off “after the Covid,” but I’m thinking that there is no time like the present to jump back in the game. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve committed to getting up at 5 for two weeks and am already sleeping better, getting more meaningful things done, I’ve been exercising more regularly, my mood has improved, and I’m more resilient (when the guano starts flying, I’m less prone to let it land on me.

Covid became an excuse.

So with all that said, I’m longing to get the band back together. Are you interested? Do you want to have some time to do the things YOU really want to do? Things that would make a difference? Hey, it worked for Mary Kay. She started a truly successful cosmetic company by getting up at 5 before her kids were up and screeching. If so, drop me a line and I’ll send you the Zoom link. The group will be small because we want to keep it to 15 minutes.

“How we start our day determines how we create our life. Are you snoozing through your morning… snoozing through your life… and snoozing through your unlimited potential… Or are YOU committed to waking up each day with passion, purpose, and a plan so you can create the life you truly want & deserve?”
